National Wholesale Printing Corporation in Plymouth, Mich., a full service commercial printer serving customers in various industries and specializing in work for non-profit organizations, marked its 20th year in business and wanted special recognition.
Logos Communications, Inc. worked with the client to identify the following objectives for their Open House event:
- Thanking the customers
- Promote referrals from existing customers, which had been a mainstay of sales for the organization
- Showcase the facility, staff and a new, state-of-the-art Heidelberg 5-color press
- Draw attention to the production capability of the press and staff’s graphic design expertise
- Highlight National Printing’s niche in providing services to many area nonprofit organizations
When the client expressed a desire for a large-upscale art mural to enhance back-end operations, Logos Communications suggested a partnership with the local arts council to recruit children to help “create” a mural.
Logos Communications contacted the Plymouth Community Arts Council (PCAC), which was very receptive to the idea. They submitted a proposal, which was accepted by National Printing.
The highlights of the arts project were:
- The PCAC put out a call to local artists to submit proposals for a large mural that would be the backdrop for small, individual art pieces created by local children. The theme would focus on the seasons in a favorite community park.
- PCAC oversaw the installation of the mural by a local artist.
- National Printing and PCAC sponsored a Youth Art Contest to obtain entries from local children. PCAC organized the contest.
- As a way to highlight its commitment to nonprofits, showcase its commercial printing capability, and thank the PCAC for its partnership, National Printing donated the design and printing of a full-color calendar using the mural designs.
The artwork of 16 youths was integrated into the mural of Plymouth’s Kellogg Park. On the day of the Open House, the event included:
- A live demonstration of the new printing press
- A facility tour
- Bags of goodies for everyone
- A contest to win a prize
- Refreshments
Goodies bags included:
- A National Printing Mug
- A pen
- A letter opener
- Customer referral letters
- Sweets and materials printed by National Printing
Other items provided include the PCAC calendar, company brochure, pocket calendar, thank you letter and promotional material for a walk-a-thon for the American Cancer Society (a non-profit customer with strong ties to National Printing).
Approximately 50 customers, student artists and guests attended the Open House; feedback from the public was positive, with the path to more goodwill paved between the printing company, the customers and the community.
Media coverage proved extensive: a news release was sent out and stories were subsequently printed in “Observer and Eccentric” newspapers, “Big Idea” magazine and “Crain’s Detroit Business.”

Logo Communications, Inc. began working with Unique Critique, LLC in 2004, a company founded by Diane Corrigan in Shelby Township, Mich.
Logos Communications is responsible for building media relationships and gaining publicity for Unique Critique, an innovative business image consulting firm.
Our objectives were to:
- Develop a press release/feature story about Unique Critique and its founder, Diane Corrigan
- Develop a targeted media list for press releases
- Make follow up calls to pitch stories to the media
- Position Unique Critique as an innovative business that will help businesses improve and enhance their company image.
Using the symbol of a white glove as an indicator of quality, Logos Communications put together a “white glove” press kit, attaching a white glove to the kit to catch the media’s attention. The idea was carried with a press release entitled, “Can your company pass the white glove test?” The release emphasized the client’s expertise, while offering constructive ideas to improve a business’s image.
The media response was positive. Unique Critique has received media coverage from the Detroit News, WWJ-AM, The Macomb Daily, Your Biz and the Detroit Regional Chamber, and still receives calls concerning the kits.
