Partners: Know the Terrain



Both of the partners are veteran communicators, with exceptionally strong writing skills.

Susan Floyd Voyles,
President, has spent more than 20 years in the communications and marketing field. She previously held positions in public and media relations, marketing and fundraising for organizations like the Detroit Institute of Arts, Family Service Inc. and Madonna University.

In 1999, she founded Logos Communications, Inc. in Canton. Today, her clients represent diverse industries such as automotive, financial services, staffing, business media, information technology, law, human resources, education, human services and business associations. Her company provides editorial management for Corp!, Michigan’s largest business magazine. Sue possesses a master’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University and a bachelor’s degree in English and journalism from Madonna University. She is a part-time journalism instructor at Schoolcraft College and a certified instructional designer for General Motors University.

She currently serves on the board for the Association for Women in Communications, a longstanding national association of professional communicators. She has been very involved with the Detroit Chapter of Women in Communications and the National Association of Women Business Owners-Detroit Chapter, and is a past board member for both groups.

In 2004, she received the Innovator Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners-Detroit Chapter and in 2005, she was honored with the Headliner Award from Women in Communications of Detroit. Sue is married to Ken Voyles.

Kenneth H. Voyles, Executive Vice President, has spent more than 30 years in the communications industry, with 15 years working in community journalism throughout metro Detroit as well as seven years in government communications as the assistant to the mayor and then communications coordinator for Canton (MI). His work experience includes both technical skills and manager responsibilities. Kenneth has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and is an award-winning writer and photographer. He is also an award-winning television producer and is a member of the Public Relations Society of America. Since 1999, Kenneth has enjoyed success as the Editor and Publisher of an award-winning monthly magazine, the DAC News, produced for one of the most prestigious downtown city clubs in the country, the Detroit Athletic Club (DAC).

Susan and Kenneth are both active in their church and have assisted the church leadership with several communications projects. They welcome inquiries from faith-based organizations about services that can be tailored to fit their needs.

Logos Communications is managed and operated by Susan, who has a majority ownership interest. Kenneth and Susan founded the company in 1999.


 

 

 



Christine Bricker D'Angela’s career spans more than 25 years as a communications professional. Currently a communications consultant and adjunct professor, D’Angela spent more than 15 years with General Motors where she was communications manager for the Corporate Communications staff, assistant dean of GM University’s Communications College, global communications manger for GM University, communications manager for GM Design and for GM Powertrain, and a legislative analyst on GM’s Legal Staff.

Before GM, D'Angela spent nine years as press aide to a U.S. House member from Michigan and held positions in county government, local TV and advertising. Originally a communications instructor at the University of Arizona and the University of Detroit, she currently teaches Business courses at Baker College (Auburn Hills, MI) and Communications courses at the University of Phoenix (Southeast Michigan Campuses). She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Detroit and a Master of Arts degree in Rhetoric and Public Address from Wayne State University (Michigan).

Active in the Association for Women In Communications since 1980, D'Angela currently serves on the national organization’s Matrix Foundation Board and has held a variety of board positions in the Detroit Chapter including two terms as president. She received the local chapter's highest award as its 1995 "Headliner."

D’Angela is skilled in communications strategy, management, and execution of: media, government, community, and public relations; internal communications; speeches; special events planning; broadcast and print production; corporate learning; marketing and advertising.



Lynne R. Zacharias has 16 years of experience as a communications professional. Her career history includes Hospice of Michigan, Business News Publishing Company, National Kidney Foundation of Michigan and the Academy of the Sacred Heart. Currently, she works as a public relations consultant for many metro-Detroit companies and organizations. Lynne has a B.A. in Public Relations from Eastern Michigan University and a Master's in Communication from Wayne State University. She specializes in writing and public relations, but also has had experience in event planning, marketing and fund development. She is a member of Association Women in Communications Detroit chapter and served on the board in 1999.



J.D. Booth is a seasoned business writer and journalist with extensive communications experience in a variety of industries, including health care, financial services, commercial real estate, automotive, and petrochemical/energy. He is an accomplished strategic communicator, accredited by the International Association of Business Communicators. J.D.’s expertise includes the writing of speeches, video scripts, background materials for media support, Web site copy development, and other situations that require specialized writing. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University (political science/journalism), J.D. is a contributing editor for Corp!, Michigan’s largest business magazine.


Michael Carmichael brings an added dimension of seasoned marketing strategy, effective client leadership and award-winning writing. Most recently Michael was the senior interactive strategist at Carlson Marketing Group, where he created MySaturn.com, the prototype owner’s site for GM and pioneered the concept of online focus groups for American Honda as well as other integrated marketing programs.
Prior to CMG, Michael was the associate creative director/senior interactive strategist for Ross Roy and Organic where he developed a number of marketing programs for various DaimlerChrysler brand initiatives, focusing on CRM and dealer relations. He came to Ross Roy from Bowne Internet Solutions where he wrote the proposal that achieved interactive Agency-of-Record status with Cadillac. Michael also devised various customer-focused online marketing strategies for Kmart, Delta Faucet and Comerica.
Before resuming a corporate career with Bowne, Michael had conducted a successful broad-based marketing communications consulting practice that included high-level client engagements with EDS, Cranbrook and the law firm of Bodman Longley. It was also during this period that Michael wrote all of the direct marketing and collateral materials for Saturn in its formative years. This resulted in four Target Awards for direct marketing effectiveness in addition to creativity, plus various other awards from the Web Marketing Institute (for GM.com), the Printing Industries Association and others. During that time Michael also wrote promotional and marketing materials for a variety of financial institutions, national food processors, governmental organizations, professional practices, non-automotive manufacturers and the Michigan Virtual University.
Additionally, Michael’s experience includes corporate positions as a senior writer for a Chicago advertising agency where he wrote national broadcast and print for Master Lock, Dairy Queen and W. R. Grace and won several awards for his work on Kroger. He also served as a manager of various organizational units of MichCon and its parent company ANR.
He is a member of the Northwestern Alumni Association (with a B.S. from the School of Communications, plus advanced studies in advertising), the Direct Marketing Association of Detroit and the Michigan Business and Professional Association.
 

Joseph Lawrence brings more than 20 years of international PR/communications experience, and another 10 years of major market daily newspaper and broadcast journalism background to the Logos Communications team.

Lawrence was most recently manager, communications at General Motors Corp., and was responsible for media relations, internal communications, government/community relations, and communications strategy development.
 
While at GM, Lawrence led PR/communications projects for the company’s fuel cell and hybrid vehicle development work. In addition, he was manager, international communications, at GM subsidiary Adam Opel AG, Ruesselsheim, Germany, where he developed and implemented the company’s international powertrain product technology strategy. While at Opel, Lawrence specialized in media relations and coaching, and worked with key European media outlets for vehicle introductions at major international auto shows, including the Frankfurt, Paris, and Geneva events.

Lawrence has worked as a business-financial editor and writer for newspapers and radio stations in New York, Pittsburgh and Cleveland. He has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Northwood University.
 
His skills include PR/communications planning, news writing and editing, internal communications, speechwriting, broadcast scripting, political consulting, and media coaching. In addition, Lawrence offers Logos clients a unique European perspective to further their communications goals.
 
Graphic Designer  
 
Corey Bricker is an artist and graphic designer who uses illustration, collage and visual texture to create pieces that not only communicate client ideas but can also stand alone as art.  She is proficient in Adobe InDesign CS3, Photoshop CS3 and Illustrator CS3 in both Mac and PC environments and also has experience with Freehand MX. Before working with Logos Communications, Inc., Bricker worked for Thorpe Printing Services in Marysville (MI).  She has also handled freelance projects for Michigan Industrial Controls in Port Huron (MI), private tutor Melinda McNeil, Leverenz Services in Kimball (MI) and the Center for Women in Jackson (MI). 
 
Bricker has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Spring Arbor University (MI).  Her work has been displayed at Spring Arbor in her own Senior Art Exhibit as well as the 2005 and 2006 Small College Shows and the 2006 Emerging Artist Group competition.



Jodie A. Cooper previously served as Executive Assistant for Ford Estates, Inc. where she served as personal representative responsible for all facets of administrative duties. Prior to Ford Estates, Inc., Cooper also served as National Customer Advocate for Ryder Systems, Inc. and Executive Assistant to VP, Global Sales & Marketing.
Logos Communications is also assisted by a network of well-qualified freelance writers, public relations specialists, photographers, and graphic designers.
